The Sanctuary Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady

The Mosta Dome, is a Roman Catholic parish church and basilica in Mosta, Malta, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. It was built between 1833 and the 1860s to neoclassical designs of Giorgio Grognet de Vassé, on the site of an earlier Renaissance church which had been built around 1614 to designs of Tommaso Dingli.

The design of the present church is based on the Pantheon in Rome, has the third-largest unsupported dome in the world, and is Malta's largest and most famous church. The church narrowly avoided destruction during World War II when on 9 April 1942 a German aerial bomb pierced the dome and fell into the church during Mass, but failed to explode. This event was interpreted by the Maltese as a miracle.

In 2015, the parish requested to the Vatican to be reclassified to the status of a basilica.The church was elevated to a minor basilica on 29 July 2018 by decree of Pope Francis.

Mdina is a fortified city in the Northern Region of Malta which served as the island's capital from antiquity to the medieval period. The city is still confined within its walls, and has a population of 250, but it is contiguous with the town of Rabat, which takes its name from the Arabic word for suburb, and has a population of over 11,000.

The name of the city derives from the Arabic word madīnah, meaning "town" or "city". The name Melite or Melita, associated with the former ancient settlement on the same site, has survived as the name of the island.

The city was founded as Maleth by the Phoenicians in around the 8th century BC, and it later became part of the Roman Empire under the name Melite. The ancient city was surrounded by walls, but very few remains of these have survived.

Dingli Cliffs

Dingli cliffs are located on Malta’s western coast just off the picturesque village of Dingli.

Rock-cut tombs dating back to Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman times have been found in the limits of Dingli. Roman baths and other remains were also found at Għajn Handful and the area of Ta' Baldu.

The cliffs are known by locals for being the place where the sky and sea meet as it’s the highest point on the Maltese Islands. It offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, the petite terraced fields, and the tiny uninhabited island named Filfla.

Walking along the cliffs you will notice a gorgeous little chapel, dedicated to St.Mary Magdalene that is located on the cliff's edge. If you hike long enough you will come across another breathtaking spot, the Blue Grotto. Experiencing the sunset against the blue sea is magical.

Blue Grotto

The Blue Grotto are a number of sea caverns on the south east coast of Malta.

Both the Wied iz-Zurrieq harbour and Blue Grotto sea caves are located on the coastline opposite to the small uninhabited islet of Filfla, which is a bird sanctuary.The location of the caves lead to the seawater reflecting shades of blue on the cave walls and ceilings.

The Blue Grotto is a popular destination for tourists to Malta with boat trips visiting the caves running all days of the year, weather permitting.
The location has been used many times by filmmakers in big screen and TV productions, namely Hell Boats,Troy, twenty-fifth season of The Amazing Race, "Cadbury Milk Tray" chocolate adverts, and the Rai 2 travel programme Sereno Variabile, amongst other smaller commissions and photoshoots.

Underwater, different colours of red, mauve, green, orange and yellow give an impressive picture to visitors.
Scuba diving on the nearby scuttled wreck Um El Faroud, and snorkelling along the coastline, together with rock climbing, are the most popular activities practised here.

Marsaxlokk Harbour

Marsaxlokk is a small, traditional fishing village in the South Eastern Region of Malta.

It has a harbour, and is a tourist attraction known for its views, fishing and history. The village is also known for the Marsaxlokk Market, which is mainly a large fish market which takes place along the seafront on Sundays, and a tourist market during all other days of the week.

The main attraction in Marsaxlokk is the colorful boats in the harbor. A bright and sunny day, the boats light up, and the colors create an incredibly beautiful environment.

The parish Church established when fishermen started to build houses near the sea coast in order to save time on travelling. Thus at the end of the 19th century it was decided to build a church that would minister to the spiritual needs of the fishermen and their families. Prior to becoming a parish, Marsaxlokk was part of the parish of Żejtun. The construction of the church started in 1890. It was built as a fulfilment of a promise made by Marquess Rosalia Apap Viani Testaferrata after she was saved from a violent storm at sea.
